Honeymoon Types and Styles

Now, the question is, what combination of styles would be your fantasy dream honeymoon vacation? Grouping romantic and adventurous? Luxurious and playful? Do you want to include all 4 main honeymoon styles?

And which honeymoon type would you prefer? See page 2 for ways to combine types and styles into your perfect trip!

Most couples end up with a honeymoon that is a mixture of these different styles.

Here are some examples of how to combine style preferences:

If you are looking for a casual playful setting, but he wants adventure, try Las Vegas. They have casinos, of course, but they also have plenty to do if you do not want to gamble away your money. There are shows to watch (expensive shows, but also shows such as the free pirate show outside of Treasure Island hotel), an underground mall in Ceasar’s Palace, a rollercoaster ride on top of the Stratosphere, and gondola rides inside of The Bellagio. There are also outdoors adventures in Las Vegas, such as bungee jumping and other extreme sports.

A trip to the Poconos, Jackson Hole Wyoming, or any mountain resort can be relaxing, adventurous, and romantic. You can choose from formal to casual settings, and choose accomodations from the rustic/cabin type to the elegant and pampered resorts. If cozying up together to a warm fire is your style, consider this. If you are getting married during a warm season, consider traveling to Alaska or farther across the globe to a colder climate for your trip.

Honeymoon Types and Styles

The easiest way to combine the various styles is to take a cruise. We at New Bride’s Guide strongly recommend you consider this option. Here is why:

  • Cruises are often the most economical way to spend a long time together. The ideal scenario is to take a 7-night cruise together (though some 3 and 4 night cruises are available). This is usually an all-inclusive floating resort, so you will not find extra costs breaking your budget as you travel (meals, accomodations, etc. are all included). You will know the entire final bill before you get on the boat (including tips, that you give only once and at the end of the cruise)- nice for those who are crunching the numbers.
  • You may be tired after the big day (and the big night) and a cruise gives you the flexibility to sleep in and eat whenever you get hungry (24 hour free room service, and free buffets too!)
  • Cruises will take you far away and/or exotic locales for a fraction of the cost if you were to fly to each place. Rather than one all-inclusive resort on one island, you are able to visit multiple places. Usually dockings are spread out through your trip, so you can relax and explore the ship (and have plenty of time for each other indoors) inbetween ports of call. Days docked at port the ship is always open, so you can go back on board to eat, take a nap, swim, etc.
  • Cruises often incorporate a mixture of fun and playful with adventure and romance. You are waited on constantly, there are Broadway quality shows available for free, Movies, dancing, art auctions, indoor and outdoor games. From working out, to rock climbing, to a slow massage, most ships have it all. Day trips can also include parasailing, scuba diving, or helicopter rides at ports of call.

If backpacking or road trips are your style, talk ahead of time if you like to have a plan or just change course on a whim. Remember to ensure you have enough safety gear and know how to survive and have left information with someone for every “adventure” you undertake in the wilderness. Have fun!
